2. Make a list of what you actually need and stick to your list.

3.Start baking your own pies , cakes etc.

4. Continue using coupons.

5. Start eating veggies and salads.. You can add chicken , tuna ,etc..

6. Fresh fruits go along way and are better for your family than sweets.

7. Quit fast food places.. they are more expensive than you think and not healthy places to get food..Can someone please give me some tips on how to save on my groceries. I have tried coupons but anything else?
One of the easiest ways to cut down your grocery bill without using coupons is to sign up for club cards and plan your weekly menu based on what's on sale.

I follow the tips given in this article (How to save money without grocery coupons) and have cut my monthly grocery bill in half.

Plan for every meal, and plan some snacks if you snack. Buy only what those meals and snacks require.

Don't shop when you're hungry or thirsty.

Don't shop with a child if you can avoid it.

Buy house brand and generic when available.

Check the Sunday paper for the week's sales.

Buy non-perishable goods packaged in quantity for big per-unit savings. (Paper goods especially.)

Buy fewer prepared foods and cook more from scratch. Sometimes it takes too long or isn't worth the effort, but many meals are way cheaper and taste better if you cook from scratch.

Don't buy any health and beauty items without either a coupon or it being on sale. If you wait, and plan, this isn't even hard--and you can often buy using a coupon when it's on sale, for even bigger savings.

Many Americans eat larger portions of protein--meat, fish, poultry--than our bodies need. Buy smaller packages of meat, and fill the plate with more seasonal vegetables.

Buy produce seasonally rather than when you want it. Better quality, far lower prices.

Keep leftovers and *use* them. (Stew? Pot luck? Lunch?)

Once ever two weeks or so, serve breakfast for dinner, and limit protein servings for sausage or bacon. Pancakes or French toast, a little meat, and juice is cheap and filling.
I normally start with planning meals, checking advertisements and coupons. I have a freezer that I fill from the meat market, I purchase a side of beef, sausages, veggies, chickens, that cost me about $300 for about 15-18 months worth of meals, depending on how often you have company. I then go to Sam's Club purchase what i can in bulk there. The next day i go to the local grocery store to get sales items, the bread store to stock up on bread and other baked items to go in the freezer, then off to the Farmers Market. Make sure you check dates on prepackaged foods, some have a short life span, others you can get a year out of, such as cereals. I normally spend on average on my 2 day shopping trip is, minus the $300 for the meat is an additional 400-500, keep in mind I am buying for 15-18 months worth of meals for a family of 4. I budget for $100 a month for fill ins as we need them. The first 6 months or so I only buy Milk, eggs maybe some ice cream, and other snack items when we want to splurge. With the $100 budget i use after the first 6 months our average yearly meal cost is about $1400, if it only last 15 months that averages out to a little over 3.00 per day for three meals and snacks a day. I use recipes from www.30daygourmet.com and www.menus4moms.com to aid with the bulk cooking.
I would definitely recommend a list, keeps you on topic.

If possible, buy in bulk and then divide and preserve it at home (don't forget to label the purchase date).

Buy more vegetables and less meat, then supplement with cheaper protein source. (The whole of China needs to do this because they have too much people and not enough land to sustain meat production for all of its citizens).

Eat nutritiously, so you don't have to eat as much.

Try buying raw ingredients to make foods, instead of the convenience items. (Flour, eggs, sugar, make more pancakes for less than pancake mix, and it is much better tasting.) If you have left over bones, use those to make stock instead of throwing them out.

Plan meals around what is on sale that week in the flyer. Chicken and ground beef were on sale this week, so we had chicken and rice, and shepherd's pie.

Be flexible with what is available and inexpensive. Cheap cuts of meat can be tenderized with the right marinade, cooking method.
plan out your meals before going shopping and think of what exactly you need for each meal. Make a list. It may sound strange but don't go shopping when you're hungry. When you do you tend to buy on impulse because you fancy different things. Trust me, I do it a lot! Try some cheap meals such as macaroni cheese or spaghetti bolognese. Also don't buy brand stuff - especially when it comes to washing tablets, toilet rolls etc.
Buy house brands.

When you can and if you have the storage space, buy in bulk. But be wary of this and check the price per unit.

Watch for specials.

If the store you shop at offers a discount card, get one.

Don't buy on impulse, as someone else said: That's where most shopping money goes right there.

Good luck!
it was just said that food prices will go up because of drought and the lending.. what i do is catch meat on sale and buy a large amount, cook, bake, BBQ and freeze the left overs.. makes sense 2 me.. that way i won't have 2 cook so often and it saves on electric or gas that is used 4 cooking..

Try not to buy things just because they are on sale and buy only what you need.Always check the quantity vs the price. And if its not worth it..compare brands and try giving the store brand a try.
buy only what you need, and stop buying on impulse. good luck
